Frequently Asked Questions

General

How are your teas packaged?

To ensure freshness, all of our teas are packed to order in a heat-sealed, foil stand-up pouch that protects against light, air and moisture. All pouches have a zip-lock for easy re-sealing. Each pouch is labeled with recommended brewing tips.

Do you offer samples?

We offer sample sizes of every tea for sale. Our sample pouch contains 1/2 ounce of tea, enough to brew about 3-5 cups.

How many servings do I get in your packages?

This depends on the size of the package and the amount of tea used for each serving. Generally, we recommend using 1 teaspoon per 6 oz. of water for small leaf teas and 1 tablespoon per 6 oz. water for large leaf teas. A 2 oz. pouch yields about 20-25 servings.

A benefit of loose leaf tea is that the tea leaves can be re-steeped multiple times over the course of a brewing session.

I have a question about my order – how do I contact you?

You can contact us via email at info@thefragrantleaf.com. If you have already placed an order, please include your order number.

I forgot to apply my discount code – can you apply it retroactively?

Unfortunately we can't edit orders to apply discount codes to orders that already have been placed.

How can I create an account?

You can create an account directly with The Fragrant Leaf by entering your name, e-mail and password or you can use your Facebook or Google account to login (or create an account).

We don't receive any of your Facebook or Google information; this option just allows you to more easily login to your account.

How do I purchase a gift card?

We offer virtual gift cards. Once a gift card is purchased, you will receive an e-mail with a unique 16-digit code. To send the gift card, you can either forward the e-mail to the gift recipient or provide the exact code, however you prefer. Gift cards are valid for one year and can be redeemed online.

How do I redeem a gift card?

You can redeem the value of a gift card by entering its unique code at checkout. The gift card holds a balance, which can be spent over more than one order. Gift card balances are applied to the total value of an order, which can include taxes and shipping. If the balance available on your gift card is less than the order total, then you will be prompted to choose a second payment method for the balance before completing the order.

How can I send a gift order?

We’ll happily ship your order as a gift. Simply include your gift recipient's name and address in the "Shipping Address" section as you checkout. Please be sure your name and contact information are in the "Billing Address" section so we can reach you easily if we have questions. You can include a gift message in the "Gift Message or Special Instructions" section during checkout.

Is there sales tax on my order?

Orders placed on our website are not taxable when shipped to states other than New Mexico. All orders shipped within the state of New Mexico are subject to sales (gross receipts) tax on both products and shipping. Taxes are automatically calculated and added to the total during the checkout process.

About Tea

How do I make loose leaf tea?

Preparing loose leaf tea is easy. To start, all you need is your favorite mug and a basket tea infuser. For brewing a larger quantity, try different styles of teapots. The key to brewing good tea is to start with water that tastes good. For more, see our basic tea brewing guide and tips for brewing green tea.

How long does my tea stay fresh?

This depends on the category of tea. For best flavor and aroma, green and white teas should be consumed within 2 months from the time you open the package. We recommend consuming oolong, black and herbal teas within 4-6 months. Pu-erh teas can be consumed over years as these teas are intentionally aged to ripen and develop complexity.

How should I store my tea?

All teas lose freshness over time. The enemies of tea are air, light, moisture and odors from other aromatic products such as coffee, herbs and spices. To maintain your tea's quality, we recommend storing it in a re-sealable container (such as your re-sealable pouch from The Fragrant Leaf). Store your tea in a cool and dry area - such as a cool pantry or cupboard. We don't recommend storing dry tea in the refrigerator or freezer as excessive moisture will degrade the quality.
