Houhin (“treasure jar”) is a traditional Japanese teapot designed for high-grade green teas such as Gyokuro, that taste best when brewed with low temperature water. Made of porcelain, it is smaller than other Japanese teapots and has no handle and a wider body. The wide body allows hot water to cool slightly, making it ideal for brewing more delicate green teas. The spout has a ceramic filter to strain out most of the tea leaves.
