This elegant scoop is made of cherry bark wood and features a carved cherry blossom and petal on its lower half. It is perfect for measuring just the right amount of tea.
Cherry bark is one of Japan's finest handicrafts, with a history of at least 1,000 years. In ancient times, it was used on writing brush handles, bows and sheaths. About 200 years ago, it evolved into side work for the Samurai class. Thin layers of bark are carefully culled from wild cherry trees and used to create lovely decorative items such as tea containers, scoops and trays. The bark is considered to be an eco-friendly material because the trees regenerate it.
